Weather: Warming and Dry Ahead
January 2, 2013 4:44 AM Today, snow showers will continue in Eastern Montana, from around Miles City to the east, with light snow accumulations expected. A gusty northwest wind will cause areas of blowing snow, potentially making travel difficult. But for areas from Billings to the west, conditions will be mostly sunny and warmer. Highs today will be in the 20s and 30s. Lows tonight drop to the single digits and teens.
Thursday will be a dry day for the entire region as high pressure moves in. Warmer air will slowly overspread the area from the west. Temperatures will reach the 40s west of Billings, and perhaps as close as Roundup. Cold air may follow the river valleys from the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming along the Yellowstone. This could set up an inversion, and keep Billings in the 30s for one more day Thursday before the warmer air mixes in.
Between Friday and the first of next week, highs in Billings will be in the 40s, with a chance of reaching the mid to upper 40s by the first of next week.
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Wind chill values as low as zero. West southwest wind 10 to 20 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Wind chill values as low as -5. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph will become light from the southwest.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Wind chill values as low as -5. Southwest wind around 15-25 mph.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 25. West southwest wind around 20 mph.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. West wind 15 to 25 mph.
