Warming Up, Wind Remains
Strong winds will continue to blow down the east slopes of the Rockies today, extending out to Billings. While the speeds will decrease heading into this evening, conditions will remain breezy on Thursday, and increase again on Friday. From Livingston to Big Timber, top gusts could reach to over 60 mph, and perhaps as high as 45 mph around Billings. The wind won’t be as big a factor east of Billings, but expect it to be breezy.
Conditions will remain dry for the next several days, with a slight chance of showers by Sunday. Otherwise the sky will be partly cloudy to mostly clear. Temperatures are still tough to forecast today. Yesterday, very cold air funneled out of the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming, following the river valleys to Billings. That kept us chilly all day. Today, the winds have a chance to overcome that affect, and highs could make the upper 30s to some low 40s. Lows tonight drop to the upper teens and 20s. The overall trend will be warming to the mid-40s by Friday, then cooling again. Sunday will likely be the coldest day in the short term.
