Snow Blast Won’t Last
January 31, 2013 5:02 AM A band of heavy snow will remain in the Billings area until later this morning. This will help produce 2 to 3 inches of additional snow before conditions begin to improve. Expect snowpacked and icy roadways and reduced visibility especially along interstate 90 between Billings and Hardin.
Conditions will improve this afternoon and moderating temperatures will begin to push across areas west of Billings. Ryegate and Columbus will see temperatures climb above freezing by this afternoon and this evening. Snow showers will linger in Eastern Montana overnight.
As the warm air moves in overnight, temperatures could start to rise by sunrise tomorrow. This will also cause some lift, and a light shower here and there will develop. Otherwise, Friday will warm dramatically from today, and a period of mild weather will carry us right into next week.
Billings Forecast:
Today: Snow, mainly before noon. High near 28. Wind chill values as low as zero. East wind around 5 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100% early.
Tonight: A 30 percent chance of snow after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 24. West southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 42. West wind 10 to 20 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. West southwest wind around 20 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. West southwest wind 10 to 20 mph.
