Winter Storm Update
January 10, 2013 11:16 AM Don’t let the sunshine and temperatures in the upper 30s and 40s totally fool you. Snow is flying in Great Falls, and the cold front has pushed past Judith Gap and Harlowton, bringing gusty winds and snow in that area. As the front arrives in Billings, temperatures will drop to the 20s this afternoon. The chance of showers increases by 3 or 4 PM in Billings and later to the east, with the bulk of the snow potential remaining for tonight and tomorrow.
The big news is that the amount of available moisture looks lower than it did 24 hours ago. That means lowered snow totals of 5 to 10 inches in Billings look more realistic .
Temperatures overnight and tomorrow will be single digits above and below zero, and Friday will likely stay in the single digits. Temperatures may be the coldest Friday evening, and slowly warm overnight to the teens by Saturday afternoon.
Travel conditions still look ominous, with periods of blowing snow…especially east of Billings, and generally visibility concerns with periods of heavier snowfall. By Saturday, the sun is out by the afternoon at the latest, but temperatures remain in the teens for highs and single digit overnight lows.
