Snow starts tomorrow
Gusty winds will continue through Wednesday before snow and cold air return on Thursday into Friday.Highs today will be in the 40s to low 50s. Expect to see wind gusts approaching 70 mph in the Livingston to Nye area, with strong cross winds along I-90 in Livingston. Winds will also impact US-191 from Big Timber to Harlowton with gusts of 45 to 55 mph. Billings could experience wind gusts to 40+ mph today.
Winter returns on Thursday with very cold air and accumulating snowfall returning the area. Billings will reach the highs temperatures Thursday morning, with readings dropping in the afternoon. Thanks for our warm conditions now, that could mean the first snow will melt and quickly re-freeze, causing some very slick conditions.
This is a big system with lots of snow making capability. Expect to see 6 to 12 inches from Billings to Sheridan and west, with higher amounts of 10 to 14 inches along the favored upslope areas near Red Lodge and 12 to 24 inches in the mountains. Southeast Montana can expect 4 to 8 inches with this system. Temperatures will struggle to make it into the teens across much of the area on Friday. Also expect snow-packed and slick roads across much of the area.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 50. Southwest wind 15 to 25 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West southwest wind 10 to 20 mph.
Thursday: Snow, mainly after noon. Temperature rising to near 33 by noon, then falling to around 26 during the remainder of the day. West southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northeast in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around 2 inches.
Thursday Night: Snow. Low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -10. North northeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of around 6 inches.
Friday: Snow. High near 10. North wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of around 3 inches.
