The hot temperatures continue to keep things dry. A wild fire in Columbus started at 6 p.m. on July 25. The fire has been named the Skibstad Fire. By dusk the fire had spread to 600 to 800 acres near the Shane Creek area. Evacuation notices were given to Shane Creek residents. Horses were move to the Keyser Creek Arena at 390 Rapelje Road. After hearing of the grass fire on the afternoon of June 26 and then hearing it is over 10,000 acres later that night, my first thought was for the residents of that area. Now it has become a true wild fire! Then you turn the T.V. news on and see horses running out onto the highway to escape the flames and black, billowing smoke that covered highway 87!
