Sometimes when a film is released, the people involved will talk up a sequel regardless if one will actually happen. Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' set up a sequel, and both Scott and star Noomi Rapace suggested that 'Prometheus 2' would happen, but little came of it. Until today, as a writer has just been hired to pen the sequel.
When we last left Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus,' the film had grossed a weak $126 million domestically but a slightly more promising $400 million worldwide. Those numbers didn't suggest that a sequel was going to be coming any time soon, while writer Damon Lindelof announced he wouldn't be involved with the follow up, which suggested that a sequel was never going to happen. But there's hope for a sequel yet as star Noomi Rapace has reported that the script is being worked on right now.
'Prometheus 2' may or may not happen but if it does, it will have to do so without one of the big creative pieces behind the first film. Damon Lindelof, who wrote and produced the original film, will not return for the sequel. And why not?
That Ridley Scott is such a rascal -- always taunting us with information on sequels that may or may not happen, but where there's money, there's a way, and he's talking up those 'Prometheus' and 'Blade Runner' sequels again.
With the impending release of Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' on Blu-ray and DVD, some of our readers will be getting a nifty Steelbook Edition only released in the UK. Said edition will hand its owners a very interesting Easter egg indeed via the bonus features: A possible connection between the 'Prometheus' and Scott's 1982 classic 'Blade Runner'. (It's unclear to us at the moment if this is relegated to the UK edition or is featured in all editions.) Geeks, start your drooling!
For those of us who follow the box office, this weekend was a case of deja vu. Once again, ‘Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted‘ headlined the top ten and once again, ‘Prometheus‘ snatched the number two spot. Both films managed to keep their momentum despite the opening of two new releases starring two of the biggest movie stars in the world. That’s good news if you’re ‘Madagascar 3′ or ‘Prometheus,’ but pretty bad news if you’re Tom Cruise or Adam Sandler.
