Passing of a Legend

I don’t know about you, but when I see an announcement of a celebrity passing my mind immediately wonders to the first time I became aware of that person. In this case, I read about the passing of Ravi Shankar this morning. He was 92. IMy mind quickly went to the summer of 1984, when a friend took me his concert. I was amazed at the talent of this man. Up to that point I had only known him as “that guy that hung around the Beatles”. Shankar was more than that. He was the person responsible for pioneering the concept of benefit concerts with the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh – Which continues tonight with the 12-12-12 Concert benefit for rebuilding the East Coast after Hurricane Sandy. He spread the beauty of Indian music worldwide, he was a peaceable man who spoke around the world, using his music as an inspiration – he lived a full, rich life – thankfully his musical inspiration will live on.
