One Structure Lost in Highway 87 East Fire

Fire crews continue fighting the Highway 87 East fire southeast of Billings today. Pryor Road and Old Highway 87 have reopened to traffic but fire officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
I was on the scene as Laura Kennedy from KULR-8 News was taking this photo. The fire was moving swiftly through the tree and dry brush. Several people gathered near by to watch as the flames spread. Lockwood was the only fire crew on the scene at the time but several other crews began responding within a half hour. So far the fire has charred 1,000 to 2,000 acres and one structure has been lost. The fire began yesterday afternoon just after 2:00p.m near mile marker 7. Fire officials believe it was human caused. The DNRC is overseeing the fire with numerous crews from Lockwood, Red Lodge and Columbus fighting the blaze.
