Man Killed In Downtown Shooting Indentified

Billings Police have identified the man killed in a shootout with police early this morning.
According to KTVQ, 29 year old Michael Brandon was wanted at the time of the shooting by the U.S. Marshals Service on a felony warrant charging him with felony violation of probation. He was on probation for failure to register as a violent offender and for robbery. Brandon has felony convictions in Missoula County and Yellowstone County.
The incident began shortly after 3:30 a.m. at the Holiday Gas Station on 6th Avenue and North 27th Street. Billings police recognized Brandon. According to Billings Police Chief Rich St. John, when officers attempted to arrest the man, the suspect fled the store, opening fire on the officers as he ran.
The suspect was later located in the lobby bathroom of the Dude Rancher Lodge on N. 29th Street. Chief St. John said the suspect fired several rounds through the door, then came out of the bathroom and charged the officers while shooting the semi-automatic handgun. Officers returned fire killing Brandon.
