Power Restored After Major Outage [UPDATE]

UPDATE: The lights are back on for thousands of Billings residents. Power was restored about 11:45 this morning after a widespread outage. Approximately 11,000 Northwestern Energy customers across the Magic City were without power for about 45 minutes after the 8th Street substation went down. Claudia Rapkoch of Northwestern Energy says the cause was a squirrel in the substation.
Power is currently out for thousands of people in the Magic City today. According to Northwestern Energy, the 8th Street substation is currently down, and affecting a wide area of the city from downtown to 24th Street West. Approximately 11,000 customers are without power at this time. There is no word yet on the cause or how long customers can expect to be without power. Northwestern Energy crews are on their way to the scene, and we’ll keep you posted.
