John Denver Almost Rocky Mountain High [VIDEO]

This past week brought an interesting story about a mountain peak in Colorado being name after singer/songwriter John Denver!
Officials at the U.S. board on Geographic Names stuck a fork an attempt to rename Colorado’s Mount Sopris after John Denver. More than 2,000 people signed a petition to rename the Colorado Rockies peak after the late singer, who wrote his 1972 classic “Rocky Mountain High” while camping in the shadows of Mount Sopris. U.S. officials rejected the plan, citing federal policy to resist adding new names to federal wilderness areas as the reason for their decision. Denver died in a plane crash in 1997. Too bad we’re not making any new mountains right now. That would have been cool!
