Happy 4th Of July From Bear’s Vinyl Vault [video]

So here we are enjoying some hot dogs, apple pie and fireworks…must be the 4th of July
So let’s take a cruise back in my hot tub time machine to July 1971…40 years ago. I tripped over this album..opened it up and found this forgotten classic from Bread. Bread was a rock band from Los Angeles, California. They had 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977 and were a prime example of what later was called soft rock.
Despite the band’s success, tensions existed between Gates and Jimmy Griffin. All eleven of Bread’s charting singles between 1970 and 1973 had been written and sung by Gates. Elektra Records had invariably selected Gates’ songs for the A-sides of the singles, while Griffin felt that the singles should have been split between the two of them.
So here is a freak flag flying red white & blue salute from Bread. It’s Mother Freedom HAPPY 4th of July!
