Hanson Boys Getting Into the Beer Business With “MMMHop”
It wasn’t that long ago that Hanson was a bunch of kids. Now they are of age and celebrating by marketing their own beer!
Isaac, Taylor and Zac are are cashing in on their 1997 hit “MMMBop” with a beer called MMMHop. I love that! It’s an India Pale Ale and they hope to have it in stores in early 2012.
That’s not all! The Grammy-winning trio also sells a boardgame called Hansonopoly on their web site. Instead of hotels and railroads, players can buy and sell music venues and collect fan club cards.
As far as marketing beverages, Hanson is not alone. Back in June, the band Train — of “Drops of Jupiter” fame — introduced its “Save Me San Francisco Wine Club” and offered samples of a petite Syrah named after its hit song. Not long after, N.E.R.D. musician Pharrell Williams helped liquor company Diageo launch “Qream” — a cream liqueur directed at women.
Just a few months ago British band Elbow also began selling its “Build a rocket, boys!” golden ale, named after their most recent album, in pubs, universities and some retailers.
Rocker Marilyn Manson has a signature brand of absinthe called “Mansinthe.” Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar helped found the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand. Former White Sox baseball player Frank Thomas revealed his Big Hurt Beer this year.
Would you try any of these? What’s your favorite celebrity spirit?
