My 3rd Annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” starts on Tuesday, January 10 and ends on Friday the 13th. Last year you helped keep the doors to ZooMontana open by donating $53,000!
This year’s Freezin’ For A Reason will benefit Volunteers Of America for Homeless Vets. I’ll be camping out in the K-Bear van at Independence Hall at 710 Lake Elmo Drive, asking you to donate to their building project expansion fund and bringing awareness to the Billings area homeless vet population.
With that said, I’m certainly not going out there unprepared. Here are 5 essential items that I must have Freezin’ for a Reason!
Beef Jerky Bites
I’m talking about the actual “bites,” not the regular beef jerky, that stuff hurts my teeth. You can bet I’ll have at least three or four bags of the stuff in the van to get me through the week. I won’t stop you from bringing an extra bag or two to make sure I don’t go hungry!
My Portable DVD Player
I’ll have quite a bit of free time while I’m freezin’. I’ll be sure to bring some of my favorite movies along for the week. Of course, I can’t watch WHATEVER I want while I’m out there, my wife Keri monitors what I watch on it.
Internet Access
I absolutely need access to a computer, because I don’t think I’d survive without being able to blog or check my Facebook. I’ll be providing lots of updates from the van during the week on our website, so check back often for the latest Freezin’ for a Reason news and donation tallies!
Heating Items
Hey, they don’t call it “Sitting Comfortably Outside for a Reason.” It gets COLD out there. To stay warm, I usually bring my hunter’s sleeping bag, an old army cot, an 8” by 16” space heater (which usually blows up on the first night anyway) and snow boots, just in case!
An Extra Hot, Grande, Double Shot, Peppermint Mocha
Its got heat, caffeine, and deliciousness all in one cup, the perfect drink to help get me through the week. I love these almost as much as I like the beef jerky. But please, no whip!
