Generous Nine-Year-Old Gives Away Disney Trips to Military Families

Brendan Haas came up with a pretty cool way to give back to military families. Inspired by the famous story of the guy who through a long chain of Craigslist trades was able to turn a paperclip into a house, a nine-year old launched what he called the “Soldier for a Soldier” initiative. Starting with a toy soldier, Haas kept trading up until he amassed $900 worth of Disney gift certificates, airfare and hotel credits.

Thank you for supporting K-Bear's Make-A-Wish Radio-A-Thon on Valentine's Day!  Your donations totaled about $9,000 cash and 10,000 airline miles.  We enjoyed meeting all of our "Wish" kids.  Their families had great stories of success and heartache too.  It seemed what everybody ended up saying was, "If it wasn't for Make-A-Wish, I don't know what we would have done".

John joined the Navy in 1973 right out of high school and retired in 1994. He served on various aircraft carriers, and been in almost every ocean on the planet. During his final four years he served as a Navy Instructor, teaching what he had learned to the new sailors and Marines: to carry on the traditions and values that make this country the greatest nation on earth.
