I just had to share this story with everyone. With all the flooding, tornadoes, and other natural disasters, this is a most timely story about FEMA and the FCC teaming up to make anybody who has a cell phone aware of any potential natural disasters in their area. According to our friends at smartplanet.com
Last weekend, an Emirates Airbus 380 was struck by a jagged bolt of lightning as it began its descent into London's Heathrow Airport. Luckily, none of the passengers aboard were harmed, and the plane made it safely to the ground.
Believe it or not, airplanes generally sustain a couple of lightning strikes per year, and are designed so that their bodies act as a conductor, allowing the lightning to pass through without causing any damage.
What made this particular lightning strike different was that it was caught on video. Read on to see this latest jolt from Mother Nature plus other crazy lighting attacks from the past.
Rocker Rick Springfield was arrested Sunday night in Malibu, CA, and charged with a DUI.
According to TMZ, police initially pulled over the 61-year-old for a traffic violation. However, when they noticed the smell of alcohol, Springfield was subjected to two failed sobriety tests, where he measured a .10 and a .08.
We all know that Twitter has become a very important resource for worldwide breaking news, and the information that is shared has, in a lot of ways, helped to change the world.
Last night, thousands of people (if not millions) took to their Twitter accounts to report on and gather information about the death of Osama bin Laden.
But there's a whole other side to the social media site that goes on simultaneously as the important facts are being passed around: the humorous and satirical take on the subject by the thousands of comedians and writers who are on Twitter. We searched around and highlighted a cross section of how comedians reacted to the news of bin Laden's death.
Read 23 humorous tweets (in no particular order) after the jump.
Talk about a big ooops!!!
When breaking news occurs, mistakes are bound to be had.
Unfortunately, one local news anchor for Washington, D.C., Fox affiliate WTTG learned this the hard way last night while reporting on the killing of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.

'Fast Five' kicked into high gear at the weekend box office.
The action-packed sequel, the fifth in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise, took in a whopping $83.6 million, setting a record for the best April opening ever. (April's previous owner was fittingly 2009's 'Fast and Furious, with $71 million.)
'Fast Five's' impressive debut was more than enough to dethrone last weekend's box office champ, 'Rio,' which this week earned a steady $14.4 million, putting it past the $100 million mark.
Karina Smirnoff ended Monday night's episode of 'Dancing With the Stars' season 12 on a bit of a low note, when the 33-year-old beauty fell in the middle of the ballroom floor.
The tumble happened near the beginning of her Paso Doble routine, when she accidentally slipped on partner Ralph Macchio's coat.
Luckily, the pair recover nicely -- enough to receive a score of 24 out of 30 from the judges. Even better, it wasn't even the lowest score of the night.
There was a major thunderstorm that raged through New York City on Tuesday night. The rain came pouring down and the thunder slammed loudly throughout the night.
A lot of dogs were hiding under beds, children were scared, and adults were pretending not to be. The storm was so crazy that New York's most famous landmark, The Empire State Building, was struck by lightning at least three times -- and even cooler than that, it was caught on video!
Watch it happen, along with nine more lightning-strike videos of famous buildings after the jump.
The United States Postal Service just released a new stamp featuring the Statue of Liberty. The only problem is, the Lady Liberty featured in the photo isn’t the one that has spent the last 125 years in New York Harbor, rather it’s a 14-year-old replica which currently sits in front of the New York-New York casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In real life, the casino Statue of Liberty is only half the size of the original. However, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between the two in the photo on the stamp.
The Boston Celtic faithful were none too pleased when the team traded for forward Jeff Green earlier this season.
This wasn't so much of a reflection on Green; he's a perfectly adequate NBA role player. Instead, Celtic nation was bummed that the price for acquiring Green included popular center Kendrick Perkins.
